Ok, as I've admitted I've been a little slack with the blog lately. I've been consumed with work, I'm in the middle of an exciting new move with my business, I've been asked about another commission, I'm producing some artwork for a charity, I'm planning one epic trip to New York and I could go on and on and....
So until I have something fresh and exciting to share, here is a piece of work I did several weeks ago.
The reference picture of this beautiful husky was taken in Newcastle's Cat and Dog Shelter and was provided by my good friend Lee Rochester. Thanks Lee :)
Pastel on paper A4.
My three house rabbits bless me every day, not just with their presence, company and dazzling personalities, but their ability to unearth things. In there constant quest to find things to chew, they managed to pull off the bookshelf several packets of old photos and a brown paper padded package. The latter I've often thought of and wondered where it got to. I'd no idea when I picked up the package this morning that it would be the one I so often wonder about.
The postmark on the front was dated the 11 Nov 1997. Quite some time ago now! The contents, a Newcastle upon Tyne University School of Fine Art sketchbook and a video recording of Dead Poets Society. It made me smile in a bitter sweet way as you may remember the descriptions from a previous blog post.
There inside the sketchbook was the verse from the Robert Herrick poem. Tucked right inside the package was a note from my friend Lisa instructing me to tape a copy of the Simpson's over the film if I found it too soppy and to make sure I made a note of any ideas I had as they'd be useful when I got back to college. Her final words were "I'm out (of hospital), are you?"
I never saw her again and yet to this day I think of her so often. I find it quite poignant that I've come across her package today given the events of late, which I'm not going to bore you with the details.
And her constant message, a driving force Carpe Diem, seize the day! Some people never leave your life. As a friend reminded me today, its probably her way of saying things are going to be just fine.
